: : My definition was, "Hypocrisy is preaching what you do not practice." So my definition DOES say that the shopper and the murderer are hypocrites. So it's consistent. And my definition ALSO says that porky is not a hypocrite. If you want to say my definition's wrong, and that porky is a hypocrite, you need better reasons than the one's you've presented.
: --You said "Hypocrisy is preaching what you do not practice. Porky practices positive, constructive posting now, so if he preaches it he's not being hypocritical. (nt)"
: Note that you said "now". The shopper and murderer, in Emily's examples, would also be behaving in a positive way in the "now" of the moment. Your defenitions are inconsistent and your attempts at proving them consistent are simply grasping to straws, immature and ridiculous.
That's Emily's argument, a few posts up in the thread. This was my counter to it:
: : : "Practice" is not the same as "do." Just because someone is not doing murder at the current time doesn't mean that they don't practice murder.
The point of that is that to practice something, one need not be doing it right at this moment. The "now" of practicing something is a duration of time, not the momentary "now" of doing something.
The moral you should derive from this exchange of words is: "Don't try to be mean to people without being very sure of your position first." As this situation illustrates, you'll just get slapped down.
