People in the past, seen to have realized in large numbers, that different situations cause different reactions. The fact that each inidividual has many conflicting & opposing motivations, was much less suspected.... People were seen then, ( just many still do now ), that the individual is highly unified, forming a single, non complex whole.... Rich
