Not to be harsh on you - but you are contradicting yourself here. You talk about the respect due the position, and then you talk about not being recognized for your sexuality. UM - when I last checked, sexiness and professional competence were different things. Now, to be harsh on you two more times - 1) I submit that somewhere along the line, you own bad feelings about your self and how you should be treated are affecting the way you are seen, in spite of your *ability* to do your job. THere are a lot of social "tricks" that will get you the respect you deserve at the office.
Second, I am going to contradict myself and say, yes, your attractiveness, and that translates directly into your sexual appeal does affect, not completly, but to a great degree, how you are percieved socially. HARSH TIME - *Are* you matronly??? Do you wear "Mom-clothes" or do you wear cute outfits - sexy out fits. Clothes can be sexy without going over the top.
ALso, you *don't* have to be thin to be sexy. Jennifer Tilly is 41, not thin and boy is she sexy. I don;t reccomend you go to the office in Tilly mode, cause you really will lose professional respect.
But - do you have a nice lipstick color? (I belive that lipstick is really all a woman needs - anything else is extra)
Do you wear flares or boot cuts? (very flattering to the legs & thighs)
Are your clothes cut to fit your figure? (they don't have to be tight)
Are your clothes shapeless or conservative?
Do you wear sneakers - coz they are comfortable? DItch them *fast*. looks awful any age.
How about your haircut?
Nowadays, 45 is not too old to be sexy. You have plenty of time. You are still entitled to be sexy.
