Is your primary problem emotion fear, shame, or anger? Is your coping style reaction, competency, or positive outlook? Do you consider yourself overexpressive, underexpressive, or out of touch with your primary problem emotion? If you can answer these questions, you should be able to discern your type. Each question refers to a triad, as follows:

Primary problem emotion:

fear: 5, 6, 7
shame: 2, 3, 4
anger: 8, 9, 1

Coping style:

reaction: 4, 6, 8
competency: 5, 1, 3
positve outlook: 2, 7, 9

Expression:

overexpressive: 5, 8, 2
underexpressive: 4, 1, 7
out of touch: 3, 6, 9

The enneagram institute webpage has an article about neurotrasmitters in each enneatype. If these three category sets I just listed don't help enough, maybe that will. I think it's in the "interviews & articles" section of the website. The basic theory is that each type has a certain amount of each of three nearotransmitters, resulting in a combination of nine types, which should correspond to the nine enneatypes because of the mental states the neurotransmitters are associated with. The article provides charts which break the types down into further triads based upon this. They are as follows:

Sense of well being (corresponds to "coping styles" triad):

Low: 4, 6, 8 (reactive)
High: 2, 7, 9 (positive outlook)
Average: 5, 1, 3 (competency)

Confidence:

Low: 5, 4 9 (withdrawn triad)
High: 8, 3, 7 (aggressive triad)
Average: 1, 2, 6 (compliant triad)

Mood stability:

Low: 4, 8, 6
High: 5, 1, 3
Average: 2, 7, 9

I hope this was of some help. I think if you can nail down some qualities about yourself, then that should place you within certain categories (triads) that when all taken together, will reveal your enneatype.
