Emoot,I agree that schools are often directed towards a particular learning type but I do not agree that ADD/ADHD is just another version of the personality. My daughter is ESFJ and has ADD. It is less of a distraction aspect and more of an inability to focus. One thing I read about ADD is that people after medication will say things like "I can actually see the basketball ring and the ball now" whereas before it was a blur that they could not focus on (not to be confused with shortsightedness). According to the website above, there are different types of ADD that relate to different levels of neurotransmitters. This is often seen in brain scans of ADD sufferers which are abnormal. I have no doubt that some ADD diagnoses may be wrong but I also suspect that there are different levels of ADD. I read on one website that some adult sufferes of ADD self medicated by drinking up to 30 cups of coffee a day wihtout realising why they did this.

While I have not studied this seriously and my daughter's psychiatrists says that the author of the above website is making claims that fellow colleagues say is difficult to prove, nonetheless, she does not discount the theories. She has also said that she does not make the diagnosis lightly but considers that my daughter is likely to be suffering from ADD. Medication makes a huge difference.

So while the answers are still unfolding, I don't thnk it is just a case of personality mistyping. Encouraging creativity and innovation in an SJ environment though, I could not agree more and I think our school systems need to change to cater for all types if we are to ralise our full potential.
