I'm having a strange time with this job -- some in the department have RIGHTLY noticed that there is no one strong editorial leader. There is a senior editor and there is me (editor). I could step in and do what they want -- I EXPECTED to step in and take control of the entire editorial process back in Jun of '02, when the then-editor left. Thing is, I didn't get her $53K compensation package. I got SQUAT. I still have yet to break the $40K ceiling! But it is difficult to listen to people complain and I feel I should tell them, hey, they will not pay me to do that level of work, so I am not doing it -- I've reduced my job to as simple as possible, I don't work one second more than 40 hours a week. What do you all think?
