Basically, if you're going to risk that many Iraqi and American lives, then hell yeah, you better have a really good idea of what you're going to do after overthrowing Iraq's government. At least have some kind of institutional referent. Without an institutional referent -- like in the case of Japan where we used the existing institutions and the emperor as a means of transforming political life there without starving the Japanese people and creating a humanitarian crisis -- you're just pie in the sky.
And I'm sorry, but I think pie in the sky idealism about "bringing democracy" to Iraq, without any clear plan, without any clear assurance of success, without even addressing the possible costs, is just immoral and irresponsible. I oppose it on moral principles.
