Hey, I'm EXACTLY in the same boat you are. I'm also a 5w4 and I've been very introspective for the past few months. I have a hard time understanding who I am sometimes. I think this is caused by the fact that my personality type dips into other types, such as 4, which is closest to my type, and into a 6. It's like my 5w4 personality is the central node and it has arms that extract traits from type 4 and 6. I invite you to look at my posts on enneagraminstitute.com, maybe you'll find some clues as to why you are the way you are. We have different pasts, obviously, but we both seem to have the same shifty personalities. And we're both 5w4, so there could be a conflict between the 4 side, which is feeling, and the 5 side, which is more thinking. Maybe our feelings are trying to contradict our thoughts, as if it were a giant argument within our heads, or even a battle. Anyhow, look at my post and read my description of myself as well as the follow ups. I tried to be as accurate as possible and let others give their opinions. Amazingly enough, just like in my head, everyone thought differently about me, some thinking I'm a 4, some thinking a 5w4, and others going as far as a 5w6 or 6w5. Here is the link http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2326 for my basic personality description and all 28 posts (there are 2 pages) There's also a more recent post about my theory of a type shift which I may have and am going through, but I only had one reply stating "you are what you are." But whatever. I have a theory that the 5w4 personality has more potential to share more adjacent personality traits than the others, creating an illusion of being a 4 or even a 6 possibly to compensate for the 4 traits, because of this Feeling/Thinking tug. You and I are obviously proof to this. Let me know what you think and maybe we can submit something to the enneagram institut (if it hasn't already been theorized yet).
