I agree that many of the generalizations in enneagram books, as well as in other personality-typing systems, are ridiculously specific and thus inaccurate. Nevertheless, I have found my internalized understanding of enneatypes to be reflected in (my) 'objective' reality, in that I can identify some people as belonging to a particular type, and knowing about that type's motivations and perceptual bias helps me to understand that individual and to communicate with them more effectively.
