I am a 1 and identified with 5 in my early readings of the enneagram. I am not so consciously aware of my anger as a 1 but being aware of myself now, I realise that I reeact strongly to any sort of injustice whereas other people do not seem to care so much (my perceptions). My anger is controlled though and internally directed which is definitely not healthy for a 1. Working now with loads of 5's, a key distinguishing factor for myself is that 5's respond to their own universe and do not hold to the rules of the day. It may be in a standard to do something a certain way (like procedures for selection of staff) but a 5 will look at getting the best outcome and is not constrained by the fact that an organisation says don't do it this way. They are therefore much better lateral thinkers, finding solutions where 1's may be locked into a tunnel vision. On the other hand, 5's may be slow in applying their good ideas (they don't seem interested in the application or the good effects it might cause) which is where a 1, who can see how it might better the situation or make the world a better place, enthusiastically advocates and implements the good ideas.
